We are from San Francisco on our way to help work on my Mom's house out there and stopped here in spiritual Santa Fe to visit my sister and niece and catch a breather.

Rescued BORDER COLLIE needs good home (Santa Fe)

I need to find a good home for a rescued, laid back, adult, black and white border collie who showed up at my place a month ago. This guy has no tags, nor microchip, and no one has claimed him. "Collie" was desperate and very skinny when he jumped into my truck and would not come out. I took him to the vet and got him a rabies vaccination and have groomed him and put some weight on him. He's a good boy and is quiet, and stays nearby. He comes when called. All he wants is food and love and shelter.

I cannot keep him because my older male dog does not tolerate other male dogs. He is staying at a friend's place and REALLY needs to move on to his new home ASAP. "Collie" is sweet natured but just doesn't like to be grabbed by the collar, so we feel it is best he go to an adult home. However, he likes neck rubs and to be petted and groomed all over. He'll need to be neutered and microchipped before going to his new home, so the adoption fee will be enough to cover those costs.

If you can provide "Collie" a good home, please let me know. Just to make sure he has a good life, an approved home, vet reference, and home visit are required. I can email pictures.

It was silver with a onyx stone and had my name Rachel Gonzales on the inside of band. It also had a publications symbol on one side and a technical symbol on the other. Three seemingly cattle dog mixed? or blue heeler? adorable puppies appeared at our mailbox last night. They are very young, probably between 8 to 12 weeks old. It seems as though they have been lost, or abandoned, for some time... They hadn't been fed in a while... They devoured some natural raw chicken and raw buttermilk that we have here to feed our own animals... After we nourished them, their behavior changed from discomfort and anxiety into playfulness and friendliness with our dogs, whom they had feared prior to eating.

They are incredibly cute and loving, little babies in need of a nurturing home. But we really can not afford to house and feed them all. We do not want to drop them off at a shelter; we have visited those places and don't wish that incessantly caged, sterilized, medicated, synthetic food life for them...

�Operation Vegas Dogs� has been a heartfelt and urgent effort the past 5 months to find loving foster and ultimately adoptive homes in the Santa Fe and surrounding areas for adult dogs in an underfunded shelter that has closed down in Las Vegas, NM (TASC). We seek committed individuals with dog experience (even if you don�t have dog experience, but come with a good heart, patience, perseverance and great attitude, we will guide you) who can provide a calm-assertive, supportive home to the dogs, many of which are somewhat special needs. Experience in gentle methods of dog training very helpful. We can support foster parents with training and resources to assist you in introducing and maintaining the foster dog to your home situation. We will provide various means of support to help you find your foster dog the wonderful forever loving home it deserves. (The dogs are now in Santa Fe; no travel to Las Vegas required.)

We have several short-hair mix, adult dogs, possibly in need of on-going, long-term foster homes. All have temporary homes at the moment, but we are ALWAYS looking for a �safety net� of homes that can take URGENT cases of our dogs that have not found a permanent home yet. This may include moving dogs to better foster situation--from a loving home that can no longer care for the dog, or continuing foster care for dogs that have GRADUATED from training that have not yet been adopted. Foster homes will need to provide a safe haven for these deserving dogs from one week to longer�maybe even six months!

Most of these dogs are posted on Craig�s List NOW (for adoption, ultimately) and will be available to see if you just give us a call and set up an appointment, come to an Adoption Day, or want to see the dogs in training at Paws Plaza with Robin Morehouse.

If you�ve not fostered for a long time, or not at all, and have thought about enjoying the benefits for you AND the dog, please contact us! Interview and foster agreement will be required.

I am a amazingly deep-souled, shining, black Lab and Pit Bull blend, the finest blend, of course�can you say �French� (I�ve been known as Jazzmine too�go figure)! I�m one of the nicest dogs you�ll ever meet, and I just successfully raised 7 of my own pups, of all wonderful colors and mixes. Just so you know, that spot on my forehead is my third eye, so I can see into the future--you are so lucky (well really it's a healing ulcer...)!

I am so �low-maintenance� (a quality every femme fatal desires!), and mature that I would blend well with children, an older, wiser, person, or a family with other dog-children. Do you have a large bathtub? Ooo-la-la!

Oh, and just because I�m mature doesn�t mean I can�t dance the salsa (I�m also Brazilian blend�) and play with the pack!

I am a beautiful golden girl, boxer mix with white socks on my feet about 30 lbs (so lithe!). I AM Confident (but could learn more confidence) and outgoing! I LOVE to race around with all the other 6 dogs at my foster home and play play play; they all loved me as soon as they met me! I have a wonderful, sweet energy with a great sense of humor, can't you tell from my tongue? I so much enjoy playing or �boxing� with my larger water bowl, so I think I need a kiddie doggie pool instead to play in (but I don't do that with my smaller water bowl next to my food!).

My loving foster mom has several other doggies whom I love, but I need to learn how to be around people better. I LOVE people, too, it just takes a little bit of time for me to get used to you and for my perky and bouncy personality to soar. But when I feel safe and secure, I want to be picked up and sit in your lap! Will you take me for rides in your car to the dog park, store, or BBQ where I can build my confidence in social setting with people? Will you give me exercise and boundaries and training so I have good manners and know where I fit in your pack? Will I have other brother and sister doggies I can play with?

I AM Crowbird Russell (�Crow�), 1 1/2 year old Heeler-pit mix, and a lovable, mellow, and very strong and athletic 40 lbs. I am neutered, with all my shots. I LOVE all dogs and people, of all shapes, sizes, genders (I've never been introduced to cats, but I'm pretty laid back!). I was always a great kennel mate to any doggie who was put in with me.

I tend to be a real goof ball and loveable guy and I thrive on affection. I will sleep in a crate, and just like hanging out at home. I LOVE my doghouse and very often like to sleep out of doors at night. At night, I'm quiet, but will tell you if there is any unwanted critters or strangers approaching the house.

Can you give me a bit more boundaries and training, as I thrive on good manners too? And, being around more people wouldn't hurt to bring out my personality. I'm a good listener because I'm so smart, and maybe more rides in a larger car or SUV in a crate would help me be more secure, to feel a part of your family.

I will smile a lot and play a lot at your house, and be a great companion! Oh, yeah, did I tell you I'm housetrained? I'm too much of a great dog to pass up!

Why are these ladies hugging me so much? Because I am a person in a dog's body, and full of unconditional love! I am very gregarious with people of all shapes and sizes and I hang with a group of large dog-buds everyday in my current training/boarding home. I also love to exercise, ride in the car, listen to your directions for me, and am very mellow and adaptive. I'm also very smart and handsome!

Hi All:

I just received word from Pyrenees Rescue that there are two Pyrs that have been turned into the SF shelter, One adult male and one adult female - owners moving to Europe. There is also a possible female Pyr cross at the Santa Fe shelter. None of these Pyrs appear on the SF shelter website yet.

Also there is a Pyr male at the Carslsbad shelter and one male at Los Lunas. The Carslbad Pyr is at risk for euthanasia on Tuesday. The Los Lunas dog may be at risk for euthanasia as well.

Having an international au pair for your childcare provider can be a rewarding experience for your whole family. Au pairs are caring and committed, adventurous and educated young people from abroad. They are eager to experience American culture while sharing their own unique backgrounds. In exchange for the privilege of living in your home as a family member, they will provide you with up to 45 hours per week of personalized and loving childcare.

If you are paying more than $320 a week for childcare and do not have flexible hours including evenings and weekends, you should read this.

Our full year program allows your family to host an au pair for 12 months up to 2 years with the same au pair. . You�ll receive flexible live-in childcare and experience the rewards of cultural exchange through a trusted organization with more than 20 years of experience. Our program fee includes recruitment, screening and pre-departure preparation for your au pair; your au pair�s training at our Au Pair Training School upon arrival in the U.S.; host family and au pair orientations; international airfare; a full year of medical and travel insurance; training materials; and yearlong support from the Agency Au Pair office staff and your local childcare coordinator, including 24 hour emergency on call staff.

Responsibilities:

You set your au pair�s working hours according to your family�s schedule�up to 10 hours per day.

Your au pair will:

Provide flexible in-home care and personalized child supervision. Arrange weekly working hours to suit your family�s scheduling needs.

Assist you with light household duties such as preparing your children�s meals and helping them keep their rooms neat.

Oversee and enrich your children�s playtime with international games, stories, and activities. Supervise your older children during their after school hours and summer breaks and drive children to school, activities, and appointments.

Your au pair can expose your family to another language and culture and teach your children international customs and traditions.

Au pairs provide childcare for up to 10 hours a day and up to 45 hours per week. Au pairs receive two weeks of paid vacation during their year as well as a consecutive day and a half off each week and one full weekend off each month. Au pairs who are 19 years old or older and who have at least 200 hours of experience with a child under the age of two are able to care for children under the age of two, however, au pairs cannot be the left alone as the sole caregiver for an infant under the age of three months, in accordance with the U.S. Department of State regulations.

Preparation and Training:

Every au pair candidate participates in a thorough screening process conducted by trained Au Pair recruiters and spends a week at our exclusive Au Pair Training School.

Every au pair candidate must complete a rigorous screening process and only the best candidates are selected to travel abroad. All au pairs are between the ages of 18 and 26, proficient in conversational English, carry full medical insurance for their year in the U.S., travel on a J-1 cultural exchange visa and have previous childcare experience. We provide a thorough screening process you can depend upon; however, the final decision is always yours.

* Screening and Orientation Meeting

Each candidate has a personal interview in both English and his or her native language. During the personal interview, we assess English ability as well as a candidate�s personality and motivation for becoming an au pair. Group discussions during the orientation help create realistic expectations and prepare candidates for their year abroad. This meeting often features a presentation by a former au pair who shares his or her experiences and offers advice.

* Detailed Written Application

Au pair candidates complete a comprehensive application with detailed information about their education, family background, interests and goals. Applicants provide specifics about their childcare experience and responsibilities. The candidates also include a personal photo collage of family and friends, a letter to their host family and three non-family references. At least one reference documents childcare experience. All references are carefully verified by our agency.

* Background Screening

In addition to the candidate�s references, we complete a background screening on each au pair. We require a criminal background check, a current health check-up and a confirmation of graduation from a secondary school program. We also conduct a standardized personality analysis called a Cross Cultural Adaptability Inventory (CCAI) specifically developed for assessing personalities in different cultures and languages.

* Pre-departure Training

Prior to departure, au pairs learn about their new home by familiarizing themselves with their host family�s application and reading supplementary material about their state. Each au pair receives a Cultural Care Au Pair Handbook, which is a detailed guide on American culture, family life, good communication, safety precautions and program guidelines. Au pairs also complete an independent study unit on a range of topics relating to childcare in preparation for their studies at our exclusive Au Pair Training School.

* Au Pair Training School

Prior to your au pair�s arrival at your home, our unique Au Pair Training School provides a comprehensive four-day training program at the Oakdale campus of St. John�s University in Long Island, NY. Cultural Care Au Pair developed both the curriculum and accompanying workbook for this training in cooperation with The Children�s Foundation in Washington, D.C. Au pairs spend class time covering such topics as first aid, household safety, emergency procedures and childhood illnesses. The college campus environment is ideal for orienting your au pair to life in the U.S.

* Continuing Education Program

Our Continuing Education Program (CEP) ensures that au pairs receive ongoing training through safety programs scheduled periodically throughout the year. Developed in partnership with the National Safe Kids Campaign, these informal seminars supply au pairs with the most current information available on safety measures and injury prevention for children. our local childcare coordinators host these CEP safety seminars. Local authorities and safety educators are often invited to facilitate the training. Au pairs also receive a Take Home Safety Guide that provides tips and checklists relating to each safety topic. Au pairs are always encouraged to share these guides with their host families.
