First time in USA! Java Shadow Puppet & Batik Art Exhibition (FREE)
We are proud to exhibit a complete collection of 154 Javanese Shadow Puppets from the Sultan's Palace of Jogjakarta, Indonesia. A complete set typically takes about 25 years to make and is very rare to find one outside of Indonesia.
History: In Java and Bali shadow puppet plays are known as wayang kulit. Stories presented are usually mythical & morality tales. There is an educational moral to the plays which usually portray a battle between good and evil, with good always winning and evil running away (but eventually to return). The Indonesian shadow plays are sometimes considered one of the earliest examples of animation. UNESCO designated Wayang Kulit as a Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity on November 7, 2003. The puppets are made primarily of leather and manipulated with sticks. Shadows are cast using an oil lamp. Shadow plays are performed during sacred temple ceremonies, at private functions, and for the public in the villages. A performance can last all night long, sometimes up to six hours or until dawn.
We will also exhibit over 50 Javanese Batik paintings at very affordable prices starting at $35, plus framed batik stamps and Balinese batik sarongs for only $15.
Exhibit hours: Friday July 4 (opening) from 6-8pm. Saturday July 5th from 12 noon until 5pm. Sunday July 6th from 12 noon until 4pm.

ReSTORE is a retail outlet where quality used and surplus building materials as well as furniture are sold at a fraction of normal prices. The ReSTORE is located on the corner of Highway 285 and Camino Arroyo Seco in Arroyo Seco. It's about 1.5 miles south of Española, on the west side of Hwy. 285, just south of the Jehovah Witness building.

Proceeds from our ReSTORE help fund the construction of Habitat houses within our community. Materials sold by Habitat ReSTORE are usually donated from building supply stores, contractors and individuals who wish to show their support for Habitat. In addition to raising funds, ReSTORE helps the environment by rechanneling good, usable materials into use.

VOLUNTEER HOST FAMILIES are needed to host international teen ambassadors from over 40 countries like Germany, Ecuador, Italy, Japan, Brazil, China and Belgium for the upcoming 2008-2009 fall semester or academic school year. They are in need of caring families to provide a home and share with them this unique experience. Host families will provide a bed, meals, as well as friendship, understanding, and a genuine desire to share the American way of life with a youngster from overseas. All students speak English, are covered by medical insurance, have spending money for their personal expenses, and hope to arrive early AUGUST for enrollment in their new high school.

The young ambassadors are between the ages of 15 and 18, and will attend the high school closest to their host family’s home. Families are able to review student applications and select the student they feel will best match their family. The SHARE!
