Basic Fabrication and Safety
16 week class
offered on Wednesdays 08:30am - 11:45am
OR
Mondays 05:30pm - 08:45pm

An introduction to the basics of machinery, methods and materials used in the production of sculpture. The proper use of the sculpture facilities and the safety procedures associated with them will also be taught. The course provides the foundation upon which the student's subsequent education in the creation of sculpture will be based. Safety is the main focus of the class. This class is not an open studio course.

Metal shearing
Metal cutting band saw
Metal cutting chop saw
Stick (ARC) welding
Complete a metal sculpture

wood exercises:
Radial arm saw cutting
Band saw cutting
Wood jointing
Wood planing
Table saw ripping
Table saw cross-cutting
Edge to edge glue up
Finger joint cutting
Complete a wood sculpture
