Reduced price***This is a free standing red lacquer Chinese table or chest with inside storage. I purchased this (and several other oriental pieces also listed) in 1985 in San Francisco and was told it was imported from China and was antique. I can't be sure of age other than it's been with me for 35 years. I believe its either a light weight wood or possibly a heavy paper. It is covered in writing both inside and out, but I have no clue what is says. The other Chinese pieces purchased at the same time are Wedding baskets, and this might also be ceremonial in nature. I have used it as an accent table and to store hats in.
It is octagonal in shape with a non-detachable hinged lid. The hardware is original ornate brass. There is a locking mechanism and 1 tasseled key that slides through. The piece is scalloped at the base which serve as "feet".
This is in good condition overall. There is damage to the base including discoloration and erosion which does not affect its function. The tassel has come a bit undone as well. There is an area inside the top which has lost it oriental writing. All the areas of damage are pictured
