Highly collectible set of 4 hand painted hanging plates by Primavera au Printemps circa 1930. This French Dept, store established in 1915, joined forces with a creative group of young artists in 1925 and enabled them establish a studio which was christened Primavera. Their art represented a modern free style which was much welcomed after WW 2. They worked in many art forms including ceramics, glass, wood, fabric.
I believe this set representing the Four Seasons was produced after WW2 in the 1950's given the choice of colors: gray, pink and black. Each plate has a scalloped edge and a detailed hand painted representation of one season labeled in French. The reverse sides have holes for plate hangers and all are stamped although some of the words are difficult to read.
All plates are in very good condition for age without cracks but all have some crazing. There are some tiny chips in the black paint on the plate edges but all images are intact, clear and bright. Each plate measures 9" in diameter and is 1" deep. These are definitely for decoration only and not dishwasher, microwave, oven or toddler proof.
