I have 2 of the last NM barn find transporters for sale. These sell for $16k-$25k+ with a decent paint job and good or reconditoned interior. I have too much work on my hands to finish them, so my loss is your gain!
They are both very low surface rust and very little dents, look at the pictures of the undercarriage, there is still lots of paint underneath!, they are ready for restoration. All windows and glass is in superb shape, minus the windshields. The nose cone dents are comon from the spare tire and are easily popped out/smothed by a shop, I recommend replacing the spare tire mount for a big VW sign to avoid the spare tire damaging the nose.
The yellow 1978 bus:
has been sitting for roughly 15 years, odo says 42k miles, and its quite possible, the undercarriage, interior and engine bay have tons of original paint left, this was most likely all hwy/street driven.
It has some missing pieces on the steering colum and doesn't have keys or an engine, the rear brakes were removed to upgrade to disk brakes, so you will need the brake set up(around $700) or find original type brakes(almost same cost). It includes the much loved, tough 6 ribbed transmission and an aftermarket rear bumper.
Great body, low damage, little surface rust, nice wheels! The Price is $4500 for this awesome transporter, has Clean title!

The Blue 1977 Bus:
This blue dream is a true barn find, with less than 34k total miles, comes with a Clean Title! and some extra parts. It was left parked over 20 years ago due to a wiring ignition problem. This bus is complete and in fantastic shape, it will run/drive with little tlc.
Includes super rare factory a/c system! Has Very low surface rust, has 1 rusted through spot on the rear corner from a small impact in a parking lot, the steel panels used to fix these busses are cheap, the rear corner costs $150, the body shop cuts out the pice from that for your bus. All pieces, parts, Interior panels and trim are easily available online and cost friendly.
This bus is mostly complete and won't need much to be well worth over $20k. If done well it can be worth around $30k. Priced to sell at $9,000!! Will go up if I have time to get it running :)
