I have owned this car for 23 years (since November 2002) of trouble-free driving. It is well maintained with 123,000 mostly highway miles. All service intervals have been taken care with almost all service records retained in a binder. At the beginning of November the latest major scheduled service interval was completed ($2,500) which included valve cover gaskets, air filter replacement, front brakes service/overhaul, transmission fluid, transmission oil pan gasket, and power steering hose replacement. The oil was changed at the beginning of October. No accidents, although many years ago my wife backed into the right rear door which caused a minor dent. The dent was repaired and is undetectable.
Cosmetic wear (rock chips, a few very minor door dings and several minor scratches/abrasions to the clear coat) typical of a car of this age and mileage, but nothing significant. The rear door window sun shades are broken, as is the front cup holder. The LED pixels in the information/message section of the main dash sometime function, but usually do not. These are all items that commonly fail/break on the e38 model. The interior is in excellent condition and shows minimal wear.
The car retains its original matching M-Parallel spare wheel, original First Aid kit, owner's manuals, rear foot rests, trunk luggage net, original dealership e38 catalog and most of its original tool kit.
The car is solid, and rides and handles well. It runs, shifts and accelerates smoothly and is a true pleasure to drive. This car has been babied. The sport package features M-Parallel wheels and matched lower trim all the way around the car, as well as an adjustable suspension. This particular model is considered one of BMW’s top designs, and in motor enthusiast circles is often considered the best highway driving saloon ever produced. The color combo of black leather upholstery and silver paint gives the car a very stylish and elegant look. It remains a real head-turner after all of these years and I routinely get compliments on the car.
2001 was the last year of this body style for the 7 series and has the preferred metal panel sunroof instead of the glass sunroof. An additional interesting fact is that this car is one of the last to roll off the assembly line. It was completed July 24, 2001. Production of the e38 ended two days later July 27, 2001.
