Years ago I bought a Sony F3 camera package from a private party and he had this brand new, unused, superb Zeiss 21mm Cp.2 lens for sale. The reputation behind this lens by famed German lens maker Zeiss was so enticing, that I decided to spring for the extra $3500 to acquire it. It came with a PL mount but I needed a Nikon mount so I spent another $400.00 to change out the lens mount to Nikon. Well, fast forward through the years, and because my film making is always small crew, run and gun I have actually never used this lens, instead opting on my road trips for the much lighter Nikon 20mm option to carry in my kit. Occasionally, I would pull it out of my lens case to admire its superb optics and beautiful craftsmanship, but never once used it on set. It has sat nestled in precut foam in my pelican lens case for years. Finally, I am downsizing and letting go of all of the gear I don't use regularly.
This is an amazing lens, tack sharp across all apertures, absolutely flawless glass, no dust, fungus or blemish whatsoever. It comes with a PL Mount kit complete with shim kit for switching out to PL if you need. There is no better reputation for superior lenses than Zeiss and this baby does not disappoint. It is a fully designed cinema lens, with witness marks and lens rings for aperture and distance control. Dial this baby to your distance and it is tack sharp and perfectly in focus.
The origianl price for this lens was $3600.00 plus $390.00 for the Nikon mount kit, that is a nearly $4000.00 value! I am asking $2000.00. Don't miss this opportunity to purchase an effectively unused, brand new cinema quality lens for a fraction of its value. If you already own one or more of these famed CP.2 lenses you alaready know why they are so coveted by film makers everywhere.
This is what B&H Photo has to say about this lens:
The ZEISS Compact Prime CP.2 21mm/T2.9 Cine Lens (F Mount) is part of the second generation of CP cinema lenses that were the first to offer full-frame 35mm coverage of large sensor DSLRs (such as the Canon 5D Mark II). What distinguishes the CP.2 from its PL-mount-only predecessor is its interchangeable lens mount, which allows the included Nikon F mount to be easily swapped out for an optional cinema-standard PL or Canon EF mount. For the first time, a single, affordable, professional quality lens can be used on both cinema and still cameras, opening up creative possibilities that keep your rig lightweight, versatile, and on budget.
The Compact Prime CP.2 lenses are the world's first cine lenses designed for use with DSLR cameras. The interchangeable mount guarantees high flexibility for present and future use in any situation and for a wide range of camera platforms.
* Allows a mix of DSLR systems with traditional cine cameras, for maximum flexibility on set
* No need for adapter solutions anymore
* Three different mounts available (PL, EF and F mount)
Ready for the Future
The Compact Prime CP.2 lenses cover a full-frame image format without vignetting. Combined with the interchangeable mount, the Compact Prime CP.2 offers the possibility to upgrade to any number of existing or future cine and still cameras while still utilizing the same set of lenses.
* Full-frame coverage (24 x 36 mm) for focal lengths 21 to 100 mm
* Common aperture of T2.1 for the standard lens set
* Sweet spot effect with APS-C sensors
Unique 14-Blade Iris
The iris opening of the Compact Prime CP.2 lenses is created by 14 high precision blades. It stays consistently round and symmetrical over the entire T-stop range. This translates into natural and pleasing out-of-focus highlights and a smooth bokeh. Together they help create and capture special moments on film.
High Optical Performance
The modern lens design as well as the cine manufacturing process and tight tolerances ensure low distortion, high resolution and excellent color rendition for sharp, punchy images.
* High resolution and contrast
* Low distortion
* Color matched
Great flare suppression through T* anti-reflex coating and internal light traps
Calibrated lens scales
Standard focus and iris gear positions
Stable exposure due to manual operated aperture
Robust and reliable cine style housing
